Items of discussion/questions asked: -Declining sales tax revenue -We are not united as a city and we don’t know what is happening in other areas of the city and so we can’t care for our other areas -we need things to bring the community together “Are there specific plans to draw that sales tax revenue back to Provo?” ”what role does the mayor have with the master plan” Talking about the old city hall lot “We need better east-west access”—we know there are several people who would come downtown more often if they didnt’ have to drive “How would you increase the supply of student housing/housing units?” -what i get from a lot of people, especially around BYU and northeast of there, is they are frustrated that there are so many students living in basements and houses—they don’t like the students there, they don’t like the parking issue -there’s a lot of moving parts and everything has a consequence -if we can get good student housing in these places where it makes sense, it will free up the family homes ”do you know if there are developers interested in helping?” “What are your opinions on RDA’s? Would that help downtown?” -we need to be very careful, because we sometimes give away too much -we need to ask “how is this going to help us? And what will you give us in return?” “how do you make your decisions? Do you do what your constituents want even if it’s not right?” -you have to find a balance. I have voted for things i personally would not have wanted, but i did it because the majority of my constituents wanted it. But if i couldn’t convince myself with the data that it was a good decision, i wouldn’t have made it. It needs to be data-driven, not power-driven
